- In the context of the modem world Flash ROM is usually intrepreted as
- meaining a modem that has the ability to have its working code (and in
- some cases its DSP code) replaced by new revisions through running a
- program or through transfering a special file via XModem.

- Modems with Flash ROM capability are far easier to upgrade as the
- working code is updated and refined. Modems that do not have Flash
- ROM must have a ROM chip replaced if they are to be upgraded at all.
